In the summer of 2023, a crop circle appeared in a field near Stonehenge that stopped researchers in their tracks. Not for its complexity — for its simplicity. Two circles. A single line connecting them. The most fundamental geometric statement possible. And yet something in that reduction carried a charge that the most elaborate formations couldn't match. As if the intelligence leaving the mark had decided this time, the message needed no elaboration.
Black Geometry 1 arrived from that same place.
Two circles emerge from a deep black ground — one white, one gold, stacked vertically and connected by a single black line that runs through both from top to bottom. They are separate and inseparable at once. The white carries the matte, geological texture of gesso and sodium bicarbonate — rough, lunar, ancient. The gold glows differently, its sandy texture catching light with a warmth that the white absorbs. The black line between them is not a boundary. It is the connection — the axis, the transmission point, the place where two frequencies meet.
Three elements. A black field. Nothing else.
This is the most demanding condition an artist can work within — where every proportion is final, every relationship between forms is exposed, and nothing can hide. The photograph cannot fully convey what the surface holds. This painting is designed to be stood in front of, close enough to feel the difference in texture between the two circles, close enough to understand that the black line between them is not painted but built.
