Geometric Enigma from Beyond
GEOMETRIC ENIGMA FROM BEYOND
Every summer, in the fields of southern England, they appear overnight. Vast geometric formations pressed into crops with a precision that defies easy explanation — hexagons, spirals, interlocking circles, patterns of extraordinary mathematical complexity, executed in darkness and silence. No one agrees on what they are. Everyone agrees they are remarkable.
Geometric Enigma from Beyond begins with that unresolved wonder.
At the centre of the composition, a cobalt blue hexagon sits with the quiet authority of something that has always been there — textured, layered, dense with surface complexity. It reads simultaneously as crop circle, ancient glyph, celestial portal and geometric code. Around it, earthy tones and grid-like structures evoke the agricultural fields in which these formations appear — the ordinary ground made strange by the extraordinary mark pressed into it.
The tension between warm and cool colours drives the composition's visual energy, while the layered application of acrylic, gesso, ink and glazing on birchwood panel builds a surface that holds genuine depth. There are passages here that only reveal themselves up close — the kind of detail that rewards the collector who lives with a painting rather than simply hanging it.
The question the work asks is the same one the fields ask every summer: what leaves a mark this precise, and why?
