GILDED ELEGANCE
Elegance is not what you wear. It is how you carry what you are.
The vessel at the centre of this painting is adorned in navy and gold — colours that have represented dignity and worth across every culture that has ever used them, from the courts of Versailles to the temples of ancient Egypt. But the world it inhabits is not a museum. Behind it, an emerald green field erupts in fluorescent pink and yellow dots, and a floor of salmon rhomboids refuses to behave like any floor that was ever designed to impress. This is not a painting about respectability. It is a painting about a human being who carries their own particular elegance through a world that is vivid and irreverent and entirely itself.
That is the tension at the heart of this work — and the heart of every vessel in this collection. The human being as container: shaped, decorated, marked by time and experience and the particular culture that formed them, navigating a world that never quite matches the interior architecture they have built. And doing it with gold. Because that is what we do. We show up, adorned in whatever we have earned, and we stand in the field of fluorescent dots and we hold what we hold and we keep going.
Built with acrylic, spray paint, washi tape and Posca markers on canvas panel, this is one of the earlier vessel works — the pop art language of the collection's origins still fully present, the language of transmission and geometry beginning to make itself felt.
