There is something about the way people live in Spain that the rest of Europe has been trying to replicate for centuries without quite getting there.
It is not the weather, though the weather helps. It is not the food, though the food is extraordinary. It is something more fundamental — a collective understanding, passed from generation to generation without being written down anywhere, that life is for living now. That the table is for lingering at. That a conversation is worth being late for. That the afternoon is a sacred thing and whatever was urgent this morning can wait a few more hours. That colour, noise, laughter and the particular pleasure of being surrounded by people you love are not luxuries — they are the point.
Limes and Flower Vase was painted from inside that understanding.
The limes arrive in that particular shade of green that exists in full sunlight — the green of a market stall on a warm morning, of something freshly cut, of a colour so alive it practically hums. The flower vase carries the decorated confidence of Mediterranean ceramic tradition — patterns and florals layered with washi tape and Posca markers and stickers, the visual language of an artist who was still discovering his tools and finding, in that discovery, a freshness that technique alone can never manufacture.
This is not a painting that asks anything of you. It simply arrives — vivid, unhurried, generous — and makes the room feel like a place where good things are about to happen.
