The life drawing studio is one of the oldest traditions in the history of art. For centuries, artists have gathered around the human figure — studying its proportions, its weight, the particular way light falls across a shoulder or a hip — not because the body is a technical problem to be solved, but because it remains, after everything, the most complex and interesting subject available.
This painting began there. With a pose. With the particular beauty of a human body at rest, in the presence of flowers.
But the technique refuses to be conventional. The figure is not painted in the ordinary sense — it is built. A layer of coloured paper beneath washi tape creates the body's ground, its particular chromatic warmth. Over that, a sheet of tracing paper carries the outline — transparent, ghostly, the line of the figure appearing through the paper as if emerging from something layered underneath rather than drawn on top. The result is a body that exists in depth rather than on a surface, that has to be looked at twice before the eye understands how it was made.
Around her, a vase of flowers in full bloom — nature at its most generous, colour at its most unapologetic. The golden spray paint ground gives everything the warmth of something illuminated from within.
The human body and the natural world as mirrors of each other. Two forms of beauty that have always known they belong in the same room.
