RESILIENCE BLOOMS
In 2019, something broke open.
Not in the way we fear breaking — not as failure or defeat — but in the way that certain moments in a life force everything that was being postponed, everything that was being negotiated away, everything that was being lived at half capacity, to the surface at once. A health challenge that could have been only a setback became, through years of difficulty and solitude that would have broken a lesser resolve, the clearest possible revelation of what actually mattered.
Art mattered. Creating mattered. The particular quality of freedom that only exists when you are making something from nothing and every decision is yours — that mattered more than anything that had come before it.
Several years. Difficult and solitary. And at the end of them, not bitterness or loss, but this: the discovery of genuine resilience — not the performative kind that announces itself, but the quiet kind that only becomes visible in retrospect, when you look back and realise that you never stopped. That something in you kept going even when you couldn't see why. That the very circumstances that seemed to be taking everything were, simultaneously, giving you everything that would define the rest of your life.
Resilience Blooms carries all of that.
The washi tape and spray paint and Posca markers are the language of the artist's earliest practice — the style that was always his, returning now charged with everything the difficult years contained. Vases and fruit in vertical stripes of colour, vibrant and unapologetic, the palette of someone who has come through something and arrived on the other side with more colour in them than when they started. Because that is what genuine resilience produces — not a return to what was, but an expansion into something larger.
