TEXTURISED VASE
The still life is the oldest creative exercise in the history of painting. A vase. Some flowers. A surface. Light falling across all of it. Painters have been setting up this exact arrangement for five hundred years — not because it is the most complex subject available, but because its apparent simplicity is deceptive. There is always more to find. Every generation of artists discovers it again, brings their own eyes and hands to it, and produces something that the previous generation couldn't have made.
This is that discovery made in a contemporary studio, with contemporary tools.
Washi tape lays the ground — strips of pattern and colour building the surface layer by layer before a single mark of paint arrives. Posca markers move across it with the directness of drawing, the immediacy of graffiti, the precision of an artist who knows exactly how these materials behave and trusts them completely. Stickers and acrylic complete a surface that is simultaneously painting and collage, flat and textured, pop and classical.
The vase stands in the centre of it all with flowers in full bloom — doing what vases and flowers have always done in the hands of a painter who is paying genuine attention. Being seen, properly, for exactly what they are.
