Some living things are simply extraordinary at being alive.
The Dracaena trifasciata — the snake plant — originated in the tropical forests of West Africa, from Nigeria east to the Congo, where it learned to survive conditions that would defeat most other plants. Low light. Irregular water. Drought. Temperature extremes. Whatever the environment offers, the snake plant adapts, stores what it needs, and continues its slow, patient upward growth with the particular composure of something that has been doing this for a very long time and has absolutely no intention of stopping.
It also happens to be extraordinarily beautiful. The long, sword-shaped leaves with their bands of deep green and pale yellow carry a geometry so precise it looks designed rather than grown — as if someone sat down and decided exactly how the pattern should progress from base to tip. Nature producing something that looks like art, which is what nature does when you pay close enough attention.
This painting is the record of an artist paying that attention.
Built with washi tape, spray paint, Posca markers and stickers, the snake plant in its pink pot sits in a field of green and blue that vibrates with the energy of someone genuinely delighted by what they are looking at. The mixed media language brings its own pattern and texture to a subject that is already full of both — plant and painting in a conversation about what it means to grow with intention in a world that keeps testing your resilience.
