TRY WALKING IN MY SHOES
You never really know what someone is carrying.
The person who always smiles. The one who shows up, holds the room together, asks how you are and means it. The one whose life, from the outside, looks entirely fine. You don't know about the years of quiet struggle happening underneath. You can't. Nobody can — because most of us have learned, with extraordinary skill, to carry the heaviest things invisibly.
The title came before the meaning — borrowed from a song by Depeche Mode that had lived in the artist's memory for years, waiting for the moment it would make complete sense. Try walking in my shoes. Not as accusation. As invitation. As the gentlest possible request from one human being to another: before you judge, before you assume, before you decide you understand what someone's life is — try to imagine what it feels like from the inside.
A vast Adidas trainer — painted in neon greens, electric blues and vivid pinks across an enormous wood panel — becomes the most honest symbol available. Trainers are what we walk through life in. They carry the shape of our particular gait, the wear patterns of our individual journey, the miles we have covered that nobody else can see. This one has been somewhere. This one has its own story.
Built at 153 × 105 cm with acrylic, spray paint, gesso, washi tape, Posca markers and stickers on wood board, the scale is deliberate — a painting this large demands to be seen, the way empathy demands to be practised. Not occasionally, not when convenient. Consistently. At full size.
This is not a heavy painting. It is a celebration and a reminder — bright, enormous, impossible to walk past without noticing — to be a little gentler with every person you meet today.
