MEMENTO MORI 5.0

We spend so much of a life accumulating. Titles. Achievements. The carefully constructed evidence that we mattered, that we were here, that we left a mark. And there is nothing wrong with any of it — except the belief that it is what we are, rather than what we did.

The skull knows better.

Every crown placed on every skull in this series is real — earned, worn with genuine authority, the mark of a life fully inhabited. But what the skull also knows, what it carries with the particular serenity of something that has already crossed the threshold, is that the crown and the bone beneath it are equally temporary. That the achievement and the achiever were always one and the same — and that both, when the time came, dissolved into the same light.

The yellow that fills the background of this portrait is not chosen for decoration. It is the colour of that dissolution — warm, radiant, the particular quality of light that remains after the form that carried it has gone. The interlocking patterns behind the skull are the tapestry of the world this being moved through, woven from the encounters and the choices and the accumulations of a single unrepeatable life.

Vivid. Crowned. Already light.

This skull is not a reminder that you will die. It is a reminder that what you are is far larger than what you have accumulated — and that the crossing, when it comes, returns you to the full size of that.
